从第一集里的星球逃出之后，因为在逃杀人犯的身份，瑞迪克（范·迪塞尔 Vin Diesel 饰）为了不断躲避赏金猎人的追捕，不断在各个星球之间游走，摆脱追捕。而整个宇宙，此时却笼罩在黑暗恐怖之中。一个名叫劳德·马歇尔（科鲁姆·费奥瑞 Colm Feore 饰）的统治者，正 打着宗教的旗号，在全宇宙展开侵略。因为在上一集里面所救的小女孩儿基拉（艾莉克莎·黛沃洛斯 Alexa Davalos 饰）不幸被囚禁在了一颗昼夜温差极大的星球上。为了救出她，瑞迪克不惜向赏金猎人低头，让他们将自己带到这颗星球的监狱里。在救出基拉的过程中，瑞迪克获得元素种族大使亚伦（朱迪·丹奇 Judi Dench 饰）的帮助，并逐渐帮他找回了自己的身世之谜。原来，这场星际浩劫的挑起者劳德?马歇尔正是当年摧毁瑞迪克的星球的人。为了报仇，瑞迪克向星际之王发起了挑战……
