愛女艾麗絲被瘋狗咬死，獸醫(yī)帕特里克·戴利（Aidan Gillen 飾）和妻子露易絲（Eva Birthistle 飾）和妻子搬到地處偏遠(yuǎn)的醒木鎮(zhèn)居住，渴望找到繼續(xù)人生之路的勇氣。他們的生活看似平淡無奇，但是痛失愛女的悲傷與絕望從未遠(yuǎn)去，時(shí)時(shí)攪擾著戴利夫婦的神經(jīng)。醒目鎮(zhèn)平靜安詳，但在這份表象之下似乎又隱藏著不為人知的秘密。偶然機(jī)會(huì)，露易絲得知這個(gè)秘密，通過神秘的儀式可以讓死去未滿一年的人短暫復(fù)活3天，條件是請求者將永遠(yuǎn)與醒目鎮(zhèn)聯(lián)系在一起。為了見到朝思暮想的女兒，戴利夫婦答應(yīng)了這個(gè)條件。 儀式過后，艾麗絲重返人間，但是意想不到的情況接連發(fā)生。斯人已逝，強(qiáng)求不得……
