郊外的一所大房子里，單身媽媽麥迪遜·海勒（艾麗·拉特 Ali Larter 飾）獨自帶著一雙兒女雅各布（麥克斯·羅斯 Max Rose 飾）和海莉（科洛·佩林 Chloe Perrin 飾）過活。但是最近一段時間她飽受驚嚇，因為在寂靜的夜里，她和孩子們都曾目睹一個可怕的怪物在房間內(nèi)出現(xiàn)?？植朗录萦?，孩子們的身心受到極大創(chuàng)傷，海勒家的生活亂作一團。期間她也曾找過相關(guān)組織調(diào)查，但對方被嚇得落荒而逃。在絕望的時刻，她只能選擇相信男朋友尼古拉（阿俊·古普塔 Arjun Gupta 飾）。
