莱安（阿瑞尔·盖德 Ariel Gade 饰）的父母因为工作原因需要出国，于是将年幼的莱安送到了在蒙太纳山区生活的爷爷（克里斯托弗·洛伊德 Christopher Lloyd 饰）那里，莱安不太习惯山区的生活，也非常思念远方的父母，因此常常显得闷闷不乐?！ ?#19968;天，一只受伤的野狗出现在了爷爷家的门廊上，莱安收留了野狗，悉心的照料它的伤势。野狗的到来缓解了莱安对亲人的思念，很快，一人一狗之间就建立了信赖和友谊。莱安想要把野狗带回位于波士顿的家里当做宠物狗来饲养，但是爷爷知道，野生动物热爱自由的天性是永远不会被磨灭的，为了让莱安懂得这个道理，爷爷决定把《野性的呼唤》这本书读给莱安听。
