故事根据《沂源抗战资料》真实战争故事改编，讲述了抗战时期山东军区特务营在对菌山保障山东作战指挥中心安全脱围与日军发生惨烈激战，教导员唐建衡拉响手榴弹与日军同归于尽，营长严雨霖接到命令带领部队在山顶坚守最后20分钟，最终在完成任务时弹尽粮绝与战友14人不畏牺牲一起跳崖，保证了山东军区机关的顺利转移。严雨霖与7名战友幸存，归队继续战斗的故事。1942年的这场对菌血战，讴歌了中国儿女不屈不挠、英勇抗争的爱国主义精神，艺术的再现了抗日战争期间北沂蒙地区在党的领导下不怕牺牲、勇斗强敌、团结协作、无私奉献、爱党爱国的抗战精神。
